To my pleasant surprise, this blog attracted 140 unique visitors worldwide yesterday even though no new entries were made by me yesterday. This meant that visitors had come to this blog by means of web search or links.
So here are some tips to increase the number of genuine unique visitors to your blog:
1. Make your website searchable by Google and other major search engines. In addition, you may also want to index your website with SPH's new search engine Rednano.
2. Label your posts. Labelling your posts makes it easier for search engines to pick up "keywords" from your blog.
3. Ping your website to make sure that your blog entries get picked up by all of the blog search engines. A convenient pinging tool is BlogExplosion. Using BlogExplosion, you can ping your website once every hour and BlogExplosion will ping the following major pinging services for you at a click of a button.
Blo.gs, Blog Digger, Blog Street, Blogrolling, BlogShares, Feedburner, Feedster, Ice Rocket, Moreover, MSN Alerts, News is Free, NewsGator, Ping-o-Matic, Popdex, Syndic8, Technorati, We Blog A Lot, Weblogs.com, Yahoo.
I used to ping this blog with Technorati on its own but ever since I discovered BlogExplosion, I use this to save a lot of time pinging to many other services as well.
4. Nevertheless, Ping.sg is not covered by BlogExplosion. I still ping this blog with Ping.sg to attract mainly local readers.
5. Last but not the least, I also use Innit to attract readers from Nuffnang's blogging community. However, this service is only available to Nuffnang Glitterati members. This proves to be a main source of unique visitors from Singapore and Malaysia too!

by the way, i register blog explosion for a few days already and my blog still waiting for admin approval, so slow
my blog took quite a while too to get approval from BlogExplosion too but it's worth it!

hello all.. thanks for the nice tips. i have made a blog about Yamaha motorcycles and on average i got 150++ visitors per day. i don't use blogexplosion, indexing or anything. what i did was writing what i like most, that is about Yamaha motorcycles. so, i'm guessing that when you really write or made something from your heart, everyone will try to get or suck up the information from you. also, google adsense teach me that 'content is king' and i believe that is very true. if you want to see my blog, here is the link motomalaya.blogspot.com

Great for you that you may achieve 140 uniques a day without posting.
But ultimately, to get high traffic, the key is to market your blog. Just as you mentioned using blogexplosion, it actually helps.
But for me, I want more local (singapore) readers because nuffnang ads are under 'geolocated' system.
Hence, for bloggers considering this too, blogexplosion may not be that useful. Ping.sg would be good for Singaporeans.
Currently my blog, 1+ month old, enjoys an avg viewership of close to 200 uniques per day :)
